Robert Silverman imagines that it would be fun to be a fan of, say, the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs win a lot of games. They even win championships. N.B.A. W.N.B.A. Silverman has a hard time fathoming that much success. Could he even handle it? But he also wonders how often he would be willing to write about Tony Parker’s brilliance before it became monotonous. Or whether the team’s “day-to-day competence,” as he puts it, would become boring. There is something about the Knicks’ continual struggles, on the other hand, that invites more introspection. “Sometimes it’s pure poetry and beauty, and sometimes it’s downright repugnant,” Silverman said. Not merely content to watch the Knicks play (and obsess over their failings in angst-ridden conversations with friends), Silverman is part of a network of die-hard fans who have taken their interest in the team to another level. Specifically, to the Internet, where the Knicks blogosphere has become a congested place. Silverman, 41, the development director for a nonprofit film company, moonlights by writing about the team almost daily for KnickerBlogger. He is not alone. Dozens of knowledgeable fans populate several sites dedicated to the team, where the posts range from the esoteric to the comedic. “When I first got into it, I was like, Oh, cool, all these guys are writing about the Knicks for a living,” said Scott Davis, 22, who is a co-editor of another popular site, Buckets Over Broadway. “Then I realized they all had day jobs. These individuals are not, for the most part, credentialed members of the news media, but that does not make them any less informed. They consume game videos. They study analytics. They offer breathless takes on the topics of the day. And they commiserate with one another. Until the Knicks’ back-to-back wins against the Nets and Orlando, there was no shortage of commiseration. “It can be pretty brutal with this team,” said Jonah Kaner, a college student who founded The Knicks Wall. Seth Rosenthal, who runs the well-trafficked Posting and Toasting site, is the rare writer who has parlayed his skill, passion and expertise into gainful employment. SB Nation acquired his blog when he was a high school senior, and he now works for the company full time. He edits and writes, and moderates the site’s message board. “Managing a community of a thousand people becomes much more difficult when the team is losing,” said Rosenthal, 24, whose game-day routine includes jotting 5,000 words of notes that he will eventually trim into a 1,500-word recap. “It’s probably not the most efficient system. Rosenthal, who lives in Brooklyn, considers himself an unabashed fan. “Oh, 100 percent,” he said. So in recent weeks, as the team embarked on a nine-game losing streak, he derived little pleasure from the Knicks’ troubles. The headline on one of his game summaries was revealing: ???Wizards 98, Knicks 89: Whatever. The team’s online community has become something of a fraternity. Rosenthal and Silverman, along with several other writers, including Jim Cavan and Mike Kurylo, even collaborated on a book chronicling the 2011-12 season, “We’ll Always Have Linsanity: Strange Takes on the Strangest Season in Knicks History. Silverman, who also lives in Brooklyn, said his fandom had begun when he was growing up on the Upper West Side. He would take the No. 2 train to Madison Square Garden with his father, who would buy tickets from scalpers. Friendly ushers would advise them which season-ticket holders were absent that day, so father and son could sneak down from the blue seats and root for the Bernard King-led Knicks from the lower bowl. The team, at the time, was not a disaster. “Things started off pretty well,” said Silverman, who left unsaid what has happened in recent seasons. Today, Silverman exercises his creative freedom. When Stephon Marbury decided to do a live, hours-long webcast in 2009, during which he cried and ate globs of Vaseline, Silverman was inspired to write a critical review. He went so far as to compare Marbury to the 20th-century German performance artist Joseph Beuys. It was one of Silverman’s first basketball-related pieces, and he kept going. He explained why the Knicks were wrong to pursue LeBron James in free agency, which turned out to be an unpopular stance. When J. R. Smith took to Instagram to post a photograph of an armored vehicle that was the property of one of his pals, Silverman opined on the growing militarization of society. He summarized one recent loss by describing, in exhaustive detail, the act of vomiting. Last weekend, Silverman may have outdone himself with a 4,700-word review in the style of Samuel Beckett of the Knicks’ last-second loss to the Denver Nuggets. “I think we’re running out of ways to recap these games,” he said. Silverman, who has also written for online publications like Vice and The Classical, said his basketball work had yet to prove particularly lucrative. (“Enough for the occasional bowl of ramen,” he said.) A playwright, he is also working on an adaptation of David Foster Wallace’s novel “The Pale King.” Silverman sees basketball as theater. The world, at least based on that criterion, can be a cruel place. Consider Jamie O’Grady, a lawyer who also acts as the managing editor of The Knicks Wall. O’Grady recalled his 18th birthday, which he said doubled as a sort of indoctrination into adulthood, or at least adulthood as a Knicks fan. There is a difference. It was June 22, 1994, and O’Grady made his maiden trip to a bar to celebrate — and to watch the Knicks face the Houston Rockets in Game 7 of the N.B.A. finals. John Starks shot 2 for 18, and the Knicks lost. “Being a fan of this team is tough,” said O’Grady, who also contributed to the Lin book. With a new job and a young family, O’Grady said he was having a harder time finding the time to write. He is an active presence on Twitter, though, and has made friends with several of the other bloggers. As for the Knicks, O’Grady seemed to have reached a point of quiet resignation. “You have to blow this whole thing up and start over,” he said last week, summarizing the season in 11 tidy words when others have required thousands. Silverman’s next project promises to be another prodigious one: a deep dive on the effects of rooting for a miserable team for a really long time. He has been doing research for years. This week that's what we saw as there was big additions to both COMEX registered and eligible gold - with the vast majority of eligible additions in the Scotia Mocatta warehouse - the rest of the warehouses were quite quiet. Keeping track of COMEX inventories is something that is recommended for all serious investors who own physical gold and the gold ETF's (GLD, PHYS, and CEF) because any abnormal inventory declines may signify extraordinary events behind the scenes that would ultimately affect the gold price. We will take a closer look at these numbers but let us first explain the COMEX a little more for investors who are unfamiliar with it. COMEX is an exchange that offers metal warehousing and storage options for its clients. The list of their silver warehouses can be found here and their gold warehouses can be found here. In the case of silver and gold, the metal is stored at these official warehouses on behalf of banks and their clients and can be used to settle futures contracts, transferred between clients, or withdrawn from the warehouse. This offers large holders of precious metals a convenient way to store their metal with minimal storage fees - very convenient indeed if you hold large amounts of gold or silver and you don't want to store them in your basement. Silver and gold stored in these warehouses can fall into two categories: Eligible and Registered. Eligible metals are those that conform to the exchange's requirements of size (1000 ounce bars for silver and 100 ounce bars for gold), purity, and refined by an exchange approved refiner. Eligible metals are stored at COMEX warehouses on behalf of banks or private parties, but are not available for delivery for a futures contract. Registered metals are similar to eligible metals except that these metals are also available for delivery to settle a futures contract. COMEX issues a daily report on gold, silver, copper, platinum, and palladium stocks, which lists all the metal that is currently stored in COMEX warehouses and how much eligible and registered metal is present. This information allows investors insight into how much metal is currently backing COMEX futures contracts, what large gold and silver owners are doing with their metals, and how many clients are requesting delivery of their metals. There is a lot more to glean from this information but for the purpose of this article we will focus on the gold drawdown. Let us now take a deeper look at the gold draw-downs being seen in the COMEX warehouses. As investors can see, last week saw a tremendous increase in registered gold inventories as 108,420 ounces were added to registered gold stocks - a close to 20% increase in total registered gold stocks in one week! Additionally, we saw an increase in total COMEX eligible stocks as well - but that's been the pattern over the last few months. Another interesting thing to note is that almost all the action was seen in Scotia Mocatta warehouses. 90% of the net additions to registered gold were in the Scotia Mocatta warehouse. Additionally, the only other warehouse to see significant activity for the week was the HSBC warehouse where a little over 63,000 ounces were added to eligible gold stocks. As investors can see, for the week most of the activity was concentrated in these two bank warehouses - maybe we can expect to see them delivering much of this gold later in the month. Finally, let us take a look at possibly the most important number when it comes to COMEX gold inventories - the registered gold cover ratio. We've discussed this in-depth in a previous article so please refer to that article for details, but in a nutshell it is the amount of investors owning a claim to each registered gold ounce (i.e. owner per registered gold ounce). As one would expect, this week's large increase in registered gold stocks and decline in COMEX open interest caused total owners-per-ounce to plunge to 54.8. Though to keep this into perspective, 54.8 is still a historically high number that was never seen previous to a few months ago - we're still well into parabolic territory for owners-per-ounce. As we've mentioned in the previous week's article, December should be a very busy month in terms of COMEX inventories, and this week we began to see a lot of gold come into the warehouses - specifically in the Scotia Mocatta warehouse. Since December is usually the busiest month for deliveries, this gold may be used to fill deliveries for outstanding contracts so it shouldn't come as a surprise to investors that activity has picked up - last December we saw multiple days where more than 100,000 ounces were removed from COMEX inventories. At this point we see no reason to sell our gold position based on the COMEX gold inventories, and this week gold has been acting quite strange as it seemed to rise on positive economic reports - which has been the opposite of its recent short-term behavior. We remain gung-ho on gold and we believe it's a good time to continue to build positions in physical gold and the gold ETF's (SPDR Gold Shares (GLD), PHYS, CEF). For investors looking for higher leverage to the gold price, they may want to consider miners such as Goldcorp (GG), Agnico-Eagle (AEM), Newmont (NEM), or even some of the explorers and silver miners such as First Majestic (AG) or Hecla Mining (HL). One last thing to leave the gold bulls with that has little to do with COMEX inventories, but a lot to do with gold. The positioning in Commitment of Traders report this week shows something very interesting - Producer/Merchants (think bullion banks and gold producers) have a net-long position on gold for the first time since mid-2008, which were the depths of the gold plunge during the financial crisis. This is very interesting and though we can't cover it in this article (I'll try to put something out soon if next week it remains positive), it is something gold investors should look at further and a reason to be patient and bullish on gold. A coach with the Simcoe & District Youth Soccer Club is weighing his options now that his suspension has been rescinded. Jim DeSerrano, of Simcoe, was one of seven coaches suspended in the run-up to SDYSC’s annual general meeting in November. DeSerrano had an appeal hearing before the board Nov. 21 in the lower-level meeting room of the Simcoe public library. He was re-instated two days later. “The board’s decision to suspend you was incorrect and possibly an over-reaction to your emails, which were reviewed but found not to warrant any discipline,” the board said in a letter to DeSerrano Nov. 23. “Should there be any issues or concerns in the future, Jim, please be assured we will be in touch with you to discuss this first. DeSerrano wishes the board had contacted him before it invoked its zero tolerance policy regarding harassment and intimidation of players and league officials. The 47-year-old kinesiologist was not pleased with the suggestion that he was not fit to coach youth soccer. Despite the bad experience, DeSerrano hasn’t given up entirely on SDYSC. “My son wants me to stay involved, as does my wife,” he said. “We’ll see what the summer brings. I’m not going to let their actions get in the way of helping out the kids. As it happened, DeSerrano was collateral damage in a battle this year between former club executives who don’t agree with the direction of the soccer club and the current board of directors. Bernie Solymar of Simcoe, past president of SDYSC, aired his concerns on a Facebook page this summer. The board proceeded to remove Solymar's coaching privileges, taking the position that he had breached its zero tolerance policy regarding harassment and intimidation of players and league officials. The board was given to understand that DeSerrano was part of this attack, something that proved untrue. Nick Childs of Port Dover, vice president of the soccer club, apologized to DeSerrano in an email Nov. 26. “Our over-reaction was based on all the nonsense going on all year,” Childs said. “And believe me – it is nonsense. Papers have put stuff out there that really flies in the face of the truth. DeSerrano was the assistant coach of the Pickard Lumber atom soccer team. He said this ordeal could have been avoided if the board investigated allegations of wrongdoing before administering punishment. In DeSerrano’s case, notice of suspension came by way of a letter with no explanation and no opportunity for him to defend himself. “They basically threw my name out there without anything of any credence to support it,” DeSerrano said. “Nothing happened. There were no actions on my part that needed to be justified. There wasn’t a process. And that’s the problem. They seem to think they can make any decision they want on the basis of what they’ve heard. There is no step in the process that says `This happened – we need to address it. Coaches Val Damota, Mike Patrick and Marty McConnell were also suspended under the zero tolerance policy around the same time as DeSerrano. Damota complained bitterly about this at the Nov. 12 AGM, where he succeeded in having himself elected to the board of directors. The Nov. 12 AGM was a contentious affair where emotions ran high on a number of issues. SDYSC president Brian Suggett, of Port Dover, commented that he had never seen so many people at an AGM in his many years with the club. After the meeting, Suggett told the Reformer that the zero tolerance policy was in obvious need of review. There has been progress on this front. At the AGM, Damota succeeded in getting himself elected to the board of directors. He too appealed his one-year suspension Nov. 21 and has been re-instated. Damota said the board recognizes the need for a more methodical approach to disciplinary matters. “They’ve held up their end of the bargain on that,” he said Friday. “That’s exactly what they’re doing. They are re-examining the bans they’ve handed out. Bill Hom, co-coach of the Simcoe Crew, was also re-instated following the Nov. 21 meeting. Mike Patrick’s appeal will be heard Jan. 7. Marty McConnell did not reply to an email seeking an update. Suggett was unavailable for comment last week. stein@monell. PHILADELPHIA (December 8, 2013) – According to Gertrude Stein, "A rose is a rose is a rose," but new research indicates that might not be the case when it comes to the rose's scent. Researchers from the Monell Center and collaborating institutions have found that as much as 30 percent of the large array of human olfactory receptor differs between any two individuals. This substantial variation is in turn reflected by variability in how each person perceives odors. Humans have about 400 different types of specialized sensors, known as olfactory receptor proteins, that somehow work together to detect a large variety of odors. "Understanding how this huge array of receptors encodes odors is a challenging task," says study lead author Joel Mainland, PhD, a molecular biologist at Monell. "The activation pattern of these 400 receptors encodes both the intensity of an odor and the quality – for example, whether it smells like vanilla or smoke – for the tens of thousands of different odors that represent everything we smell. Right now, nobody knows how the activity patterns are translated into a signal that our brain registers as the odor. Adding to the complexity of the problem, the underlying amino acid sequence can vary slightly for each of the 400 receptor proteins, resulting in one or more variants for each of the receptors. Each receptor variant responds to odors in a slightly different way and the variants are distributed across individuals such that nearly everyone has a unique combination of olfactory receptors. To gain a better understanding of the extent of olfactory receptor variation and how this impacts human odor perception, Mainland and his collaborators used a combination of high-throughput assays to measure how single receptors and individual humans respond to odors. The results, published in Nature Neuroscience, provide a critical step towards understanding how olfactory receptors encode the intensity, pleasantness and quality of odor molecules. The researchers first cloned 511 known variants of human olfactory receptors and embedded them in host cells that are easy to grow in the laboratory. The next step was to measure whether each receptor variant responded to a panel of 73 different odor molecules. This process identified 28 receptor variants that responded to at least one of the odor molecules. Drilling down, the researchers next examined the DNA of 16 olfactory receptor genes, discovering considerable variation within the genes for discrete receptors. Using sophisticated mathematical modeling to extrapolate from these results, Mainland predicts that the olfactory receptors of any two individuals differ by about 30 percent. This means that for any two randomly chosen individuals, approximately 140 of their 400 olfactory receptors will differ in how they respond to odor molecules. To understand how variation in a single olfactory receptor affects odor perception, the researchers studied responses to odors in individuals having different variants of a receptor known as OR10G4. They found that variations in the OR10G4 receptor were related to how people perceive the intensity and pleasantness of guaiacol, a molecule that often is described as having a 'smoky' characteristic. Moving forward, a current study is relating the olfactory receptor repertoire of hundreds of people with how those people respond to odors. The data will enable the researchers to identify additional examples of how changes in individual receptors affect olfactory perception. "The long-term goal is to figure out how the receptors encode odor molecules well enough that we can actually create any odor we want by manipulating the receptors directly," said Mainland. "In essence, this would allow us to 'digitize' olfaction. Also contributing to the research were Casey Trimmer, Lindsey L. Snyder, and Andrew H. Several dozen aggrieved civil servants, who were forced to remain OSD (officer on special duty) for years, yesterday demanded their promotion and posting. Around 30 OSDs met the senior secretary of the public administration ministry at the Secretariat to press home their demands in the presence of law-enforcers and pro-government employees. This is the second time in two weeks the OSDs expressed their discontent. On November 27, over 100 OSDs met Senior Secretary Sobhan Sikder and Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan in several groups. Yesterday, Sikder assured the aggrieved officials of making efforts to meet their demands. “Making officers OSD is a bad practice. We don’t want to see anybody remaining OSD for years. We can’t give posting as a huge number of officers were recruited and given promotions,” Sikder told The Daily Star. Awami League-led government gave posting to 2,500 civil servants. But a good number of public servants were deprived of both promotion and posting. The officers deprived of promotion or posting recently raised their voices hoping that they would get justice in the changed situation ahead of the parliamentary polls. Some aggrieved officials said they had a plan to stage a big showdown by gathering 400-500 deprived officers at the Secretariat. “We thought there would be a change in the politics and administration ahead of the election. Ned til Finland pa andreplass var det 1.13,1 minutt. - Var det stafettlaget i OL vi sa i dag? - Det er veldig vanskelig a si. Det er lenge til OL, og det er mange som kan ga seg inn og ut pa det forstelaget. Men det gjelder a gripe mulighetene man har pa de stafettene som er og ikke minst de skirennene som er. Dem som gar fortest far lov til a ga, og Norge stiller med det beste laget. Det er det vi alle onsker, sier Johaug. NY SJANSE: Egil Kristiansen bekrefter at Skofterud far vise seg frem i Davos. Landslagstrener Egil Kristiansen svarer slik pa sporsmal om sondagens stafett har en betydning med tanke pa uttaket til OL. - Det teller uansett positivt a ga gode stafettetapper. Vi tar med alt vi kan bruke til en vurdering. Men det er ingen som helst tvil om at det er de som er i form nar vi kommer til OL, som skal ga stafett, sier han til Nettavisen. Kristiansen bekrefter imidlertid til pressen at Skofterud ogsa far muligheten til a vise seg fram i Davos neste helg. South Africa has a bright future "because of the tremendous legacy" left by Nelson Mandela, says former prime minister Brian Mulroney, so long as its citizens keep his message of love, hope and reconciliation alive. In an interview with CTV's Question Period that aired Sunday, Mulroney remembered his friend Mandela, who died Thursday at the age of 95. When asked if Mandela's death might imperil South Africa's fledgling democracy, Mulroney said no. "I think the roots that Nelson Mandela sowed are deep enough or secure enough for South Africans to realize that what he wanted for them was happiness, prosperity, education, healthcare," Mulroney said. "He wanted a better life for them, he wanted freedom, and you get that in these circumstances by building a new country and not by fighting with your neighbours or fighting with people on the basis of race or religion within. So I'm confident about the future because of the tremendous legacy that he left. Mulroney said he and Mandela "became pretty fast friends" because of his government's hard-line stance, including strong economic sanctions, against South Africa's apartheid regime. "When we came in in '84, Canada's activities in this area had been fairly tepid and we had to move our game up pretty quickly. And so we decided to focus on Mr. Mandela in South Africa and apartheid as our number one priority in the area of human rights and foreign policy," Mulroney said. "And the message quickly went through to Mr. Mandela in jail at the time that there was a new game in town in Canada and that we took this very seriously, as did all Canadians. Mulroney noted that while many Canadians were supportive of his government's stance towards South Africa, he acknowledged that he faced opposition from business leaders who had investments in the country, as well as from within his own party. But, Mulroney said, he was reminded of the urgency of his government's actions every time he looked at the South African embassy, which is located right across the street from 24 Sussex Dr. "Every morning when I left, I'd look outside and I'd see the residence and I'd get angry. And I'd be angry when I saw it before I went to sleep at night, because it was just a symbol of such significant evil against other human beings," Mulroney said. "It's hard to remember ... that in one's lifetime, you could see a situation where three or four million whites dominated the 25 or 35 million blacks, stripped them of their rights, stripped them of their property, stripped them of their dignity and their decency, and treated them like slaves. And this was going on until Mr. Mandela was freed. In the end, he said, he knew Canadians believed "we were fighting a fight that had to be fought and won," even in the face of opposition from then-U.S. president Ronald Reagan and then-British prime minister Margaret Thatcher. "(They) would take the position that, 'Well, Brian you know Mandela's a communist.' And I would say, 'And how do you know that? He's been in jail for 27 years. Did he call you up and tell you this? How do you know? The fact of the matter is, if he's receiving support from communist governments around the world, it's only because you're not helping him. If I were in jail for 27 years and a communist government supported me, I'd support them in return on behalf of my fellow South Africans. "So I think there was a blind spot there in the case of President Reagan and Prime Minister Thatcher. In the end, Mandela himself told world leaders to keep up the pressure via sanctions when he was released from prison because it would help bring down the apartheid regime. Avec le psychodrame de l’eviction de Renaud Tardy, le premier adjoint sortant, on sait tout du fonctionnement « democratique » de la section locale : comment est designee la tete de liste, comment sont choisis les militants qui l’accompagneront... Le PS procede regulierement a des votes qui donnent lieu a beaucoup de commentaires. Et les autres ? Combien de places lui sont-elle reservees et a quelles positions ? « Nous ne faisons pas de negociations a l’ancienne, ca se passe en bonne intelligence », affirme Guillaume Delbar, qui affirme qu’une large place sera accordee aux personnalites non cartees. « Ce sera la majorite, tres probablement, confirme-t-il. Je suis dans une logique de rassemblement et d’ouverture. » En meme temps, les militants cartes a l’UMP et a l’UDI ne sont pas legion a Roubaix ! La liste doit etre arretee en debut d’annee. « La commission nationale d’investitures est chargee d’instruire les candidatures de l’UDI aux elections municipales dans les communes de plus de 9 000 habitants. Pierre Outteryck, secretaire de la cellule PCF de Roubaix, egalement pressenti pour mener la liste, croit un consensus possible : « Dans le cadre de discussions, chacun avance des noms. Et apres on en discute. L’idee, c’est que ce soit porte collectivement, y compris par les 53 personnes presentes sur la liste. » Il n’y aura pas de vote pour valider la liste ou figureront des syndicalistes, des militants associatifs, voire des socialistes decus, et que le Front de gauche devrait boucler en janvier. « Il y a des gens obnubiles par le vote, constate Pierre Outteryck. Chez nous, ca se passe dans la discussion. Et je ne pense pas qu'on passera au vote. Ce n'est pas ce qui nous preoccupe. Et puis le vote tel qu’il se passe ailleurs, ca me fait sourire. « Pour les elections municipales, ce sont les adherent/e/s d’Europe ecologie Les Verts de la commune qui decident. Article III-2-5-1 du reglement interieur d’Europe ecologie les Verts. Les adherents roubaisiens d’EELV (Europe Ecologie - Les Verts) ont deja commence a appliquer leurs statuts : des le 25 octobre dernier, le « groupe local » - une trentaine de militants - reuni en assemblee generale a vote pour que Slimane Tir soit tete de liste aux municipales de mars. Jusque la, la procedure du parti ecolo ressemble a s’y meprendre a celle inscrite dans les statuts du Parti socialiste. D’autant que comme au PS, les membres d’EELV qui veulent figurer sur la liste doivent faire acte de candidature. La suite est legerement differente : alors qu’au PS, le candidat soumet « sa » liste au vote des militants, chez les Verts, elle s’elabore en commun. « On reproche souvent aux Verts de trop parler, et en effet, sur ce sujet on discute beaucoup ! », s’amuse Christian Carlier, conseiller municipal EELV sortant. Une fois un consensus trouve sur les candidats « maison », une discussion s’engage sur les personnalites exterieures. « La societe civile sera encore tres presente sur la liste », confie Myriam Cau, conseillere municipale et regionale. Une assemblee generale est convoquee en fin de processus pour donner son avis sur le resultat final de ces conciliabules. La decision du groupe local est ensuite souveraine : s’il peut y avoir des discussions informelles avec les echelons superieurs, la liste validee par le groupe local n’a pas a etre soumise a l’approbation des instances regionale ou nationale. « Pour toutes les elections, la strategie est definie par le Conseil national. Peu precises, les regles du MoDem ne prevoient pas de faire voter les militants. « Dans les villes de plus de 20 000 habitants, l’investiture est decidee par une commission nationale », indique Arnaud Verspieren, le leader local du mouvement. « Tout a deja ete fait », ajoute celui qui est donc officiellement chef de file du MoDem pour les municipales. Mais pas tete de liste, puisque le parti centriste devrait a nouveau s’allier au PS des le premier tour. « Les strategies d’alliance sont decidees au niveau national pour les elections nationales et au niveau local pour les elections locales », precise encore Arnaud Verspieren. Il en va de meme pour les autres candidats MoDem sur la liste : il y a discussion au niveau de la section locale, mais pas de vote formel, meme s’« il n’est pas interdit d’en organiser un ». « Chez nous, c’est convivial ! » Selon Arnaud Verspieren, la section MoDem du Roubaisis compte 65 adherents a jour de cotisation. Statuts non consultables sur Internet. Pas de « democratie interne » au FN, et en tout cas pas de maniere formalisee. Il faut dire qu’au parti lepeniste, il n’y a pas de « section roubaisienne » constituee. « On reconstruit le mouvement a Roubaix, et on compte justement sur les municipales pour remonter quelque chose de plus structure », fait remarquer Luc Van Engelandt, nouvelle tete de liste du FN dans la commune. Si les militants ont leur mot a dire sur la composition de la liste qui portera les couleurs du Rassemblement bleu marine (RBM) en mars, il n’y aura pas de vote a proprement parler. « Le choix des personnes retenues et l’ordre d’apparition sur la liste sont valides par le comite de campagne », detaille Luc Van Engelandt. Et en cas de desaccord, c’est bien sur le chef qui tranche. Ce verdict est definitif, puisque si le medecin a ete designe par les instances nationales du FN pour mener la liste roubaisienne, celles-ci n’ont pas a « valider » sa composition. « On recrute par bouche-a-oreille, en fonction des competences, precise Luc Van Engelandt qui a pris la suite de Francoise Coolzaet. A priori, on n’aura aucun probleme pour avoir 53 noms », promet Luc Van Engelandt. Les militants cartes au FN devraient occuper les premieres places de la liste qui sera completee par un panel de sympathisants. « Qui partagent nos idees », precise le « docteur », lui meme carte au RBM et non au FN.
